The Abrahamic Covenant - Source: reachingourpotential.blogspot.com
No area has been the recipient of so much anger, jealousy, rage and attention, than Israel and Jerusalem.
Yet, Israel is one of the smallest nations in the world. It is only 8000 square miles, about 8 times smaller than Florida (USA)! Nonetheless, with its treasured city Jerusalem as its capital (rightly referred to as the Holy land), the nation of Israel has become a cup of trembling; to all of its enemies. Israel is a hot-spot; and remains an area of unrest and a constant burden to all of the nations, political leaders and organizations of the world. Why?
Jerusalem is hallowed by the three largest world religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism), who all consider it as a “Holy land”. The global media seems to always be focused on the constant skirmishes and hostilities between Israel and it’s neighbors, who all seem to hate this tiny nation. Today, Israel seems to remain the central focus of the whole world. But Why?
Does Jerusalem really belong to the Jews or to God himself? This article reveals the shocking truth as to who is the deed holder to this Holy Land, Jerusalem!
“The LORD said to Abram, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:2- 3
By his grace, God gave the Jews the right to occupy and again re-occupy Jerusalem, his Holy land, that they may be the custodians of his word (the Holy Bible) and the caretakers of his land until his return.
So to whom does Jerusalem, the cherished Land of Israel “really” belong to?
God Owns Jerusalem and all of Israel!
Therefore, according to the Bible, neither Israel nor any other nation has the right to sell, or divide, or give away any portion of Jerusalem or Israel, for God Himself holds the title deed. (read Leviticus 25:23).
The Lord promises to enter into judgment with all those nations who attempt to divide up His Land. (Joel 3:2). It is not actually Israel who owns this tiny piece of land, but God Himself. God has assigned Israel as the temporary custodian of his land, to occupy it until God returns to claim it back.
In the last days God says: “God will make Jerusalem like a cup of trembling to all the surrounding nations who lay siege to Judah. Jerusalem will be like a very heavy stone to all the people, and all those who try to heave it away will be shredded into pieces by the Holy One of Israel (Zechariah 12:3)
Those who war against the ‘apple of God’s eye (Jerusalem and Israel)’ will be ashamed, disgraced, and brought to nothing: “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.” Isaiah 41:11-12
The Romans in approximately AD 70, totally destroyed Jerusalem, and its temple. They forced the Jews to be scattered throughout the world, and pretty much wiped Israel out of the map.
Other than Israel, No nation in history, after having been wiped out of existence, has ever been reborn again!
The Lord foretold this future rebirth thousands of years ago, during the time of Moses! “The Lord will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you. If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back. And the Lord your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it” (Deuteronomy 30:3-5).
Throughout the bible, we read about this miraculous rebirth of the nation of Israel, and the Jews recapture of Jerusalem! In Joel 3:2, the Lord says, “I will also gather all nations…and will pronounce sentence on them there for my people and my heritage Israel, whom they scattered among the nations, and divided my land.”
Some immediately protest these bible based claims by arguing that the Abrahamic Covenant has been cancelled either by Jesus death on the Cross or by the disobedience of the Jews. But the Bible clearly teaches that the Abrahamic Covenant is an everlasting one (a covenant that lasts Forever) and that is still in effect (Genesis 17:7; 1 Chronicles 16:17-18; Psalm 105:8-11; and Romans 9:4).
Further, Paul states in Romans 11 that the disobedience of the Jews has not nullified the promises of God to them, “for the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). God does not break promises, for he is not like carnal minded man – he is God Almighty!
So did God Make a great Nation out of Abraham?
Were all families of the earth really blessed because of the Abrahamic covenant? YES! Through the seed of Abraham God not only created the Nation of Israel, but he created a much greater “Spiritual Israel”. Through Abraham, three major religions evolved (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism). Through Abraham’s seed, Jesus Christ the Messiah; the only begotten son of God, would be born. He would live a perfect and sinless life, so that he could sacrifice his life for ours. Through Jesus Christ, all of our sins – past, present and future can be instantly wiped clean. Jesus was, is, and shall always be the unblemished sacrificial Lamb of God that wipes away the sins of the world. All those who accept his free gift of eternal life, through his shed blood at the cross, can receive eternal life.
But despite the great blessings that evolved from the Abrahamic covenant, there remains much to be desired in this lost world that we occupy for a short span of time. Most of the problems throughout the world are because many inhabitants of the world still reject the true God and the Messiah. They prefer the God of this world. But I will leave that for future discussions.
I hope that this article has shed light into the significance of Jerusalem and Israel in these later days, and as to why Israel seems to have become the center of concern and attention relative to the peace and stability of the middle east, and the world as a whole.
May God bless you!
