Beholding the Lord

but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:16-18)

I was reflecting a lot on these verses today.

The Israelites were afraid simply to look at the glory of God reflected on Moses’ face and so he put a veil over his face.

But Moses wanted to see that glory. He longed to see his Lord’s beauty. And so whenever he went to talk to the Lord, he took off that veil.

I want to see my Lord’s beauty too. And the amazing thing is that Jesus himself takes off the veil and says, “You don’t need that. Look at me. I want you to see me. To know me.”

And something about seeing his beauty changes me. The more I see him, the more I know him, the more I become like him.

I’m not what I used to be. I’m not what I will be.

But all that matters is that my Lord loves me, and I can stand boldy before him, veil off, invited to draw even nearer and to truly know him.

Lord, you’ve removed the veil from my face. You’ve accepted me. You love me. I’m free to draw near. So I draw near. I long to see and know you more.
