I recently got a new computer. My last one was bought way back in 2001, and while it was pretty good at the time, by the end, it was old, slow, and just about dead.
It’s pretty amazing how fast things move now with my new PC. Videos now go smoothly, applications open quickly, my computer starts and shuts down in seconds. It’s really nice.
But it’s nothing to compare with what God’s going to do with world someday.
We’re living in a world where things are literally falling apart. Earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, all kinds of natural disasters.
More than that, people hurting people. Not just crimes, but husbands hurting wives, wives hurting husbands, parents hurting children, friends hurting friends.
And of course, there’s death. It comes to us all, both young and old.
But Isaiah says this is all coming to an end.
He seems to be talking not of heaven at this point, but at the time when Jesus reigns for a thousand years. (Revelation 20)
And during that time, God says,
Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy.
I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.
Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. (Isaiah 65:17-20)
Tears and mourning will be put aside, and in its place will be joy. And while death will still happen at this time, people will live out their lives in peace.
For those who love Jesus who die during that time, they will receive new bodies. (Although I don’t know the timing for that).
Not only that, we’ll find joy in our work as we were meant to in the beginning.
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. They will not toil in vain. (21-23)
And at that time, there will be peace on earth, even with the animals.
The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent’s food.
They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain (25).
All things new.
I’ll tell you what: I can’t wait for that day.
