When God’s will is clear

2 Samuel 2

Some time later, David inquired of the Lord: “Should I go to one of the towns of Judah?”

The Lord answered him, “Go.”

Then David asked, “Where should I go?”

“To Hebron,” the Lord replied. (2 Samuel 2:1)

I was wishing this morning that I could get clear answers like David did that day.

But then I wondered what I would do even if I got those answers.

It seems that everyone knew David was supposed to become king when Saul died. From Saul to Jonathan to Abigail to Abner to all the people of Israel, they all knew. (1 Samuel 23:17; 25:30; 2 Samuel 3:18; 5:2)

And yet, when Saul died, Abner and the people of Israel were slow to accept David as king.

I don’t want to be that way, rejecting what God is already clear on in his Word. If I do that, can I really expect him to speak to me on other things?

Father, help me to be submissive and obedient to the things you’re already clear on so that I may hear your voice on other things.
