Filled, led, empowered, anointed, and sent out

Luke 4

Then Jesus left the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit… (Luke 4:1)

Then Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit… (Luke 4:14)

The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me
to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. (Luke 4:18-19)

Honestly, I started the day a little angry. That’s the problem with starting it with social media and the news, I suppose.

And so after repenting of letting the anger of man (James 1:20) take me, I opened my Bible to today’s passage and saw the above words.

“Filled by the Spirit.”

“Led by the Spirit.”

“Empowered by the Spirit.”

“Anointed and sent out by the Spirit.”

That’s what Jesus was.

And that’s what I want to be.

Why?

Because we’re in a broken world in desperate need of good news.

The King has come.

His Kingdom has already started.

The year of the Lord’s favor has begun.

So I’m praying,

“Father, let me not be filled with anger or fear, but by your Spirit. Use me to bring your hope to everyone around me.”
