The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)
I was thinking this morning about why Martha was so worried and upset in her service to the Lord.
And the thought came to me: could it be that she failed to realize Jesus had already accepted her? Was she stressed because she felt she had to prove something to him?
How often are we worried and upset in our service, because we fail to realize that Jesus has already accepted us.
How often do we forget that as much as he is interested in our faithful service to him, he is much more interested in us?
Can we relax in his presence as Mary did, knowing he already accepts us? Or do we feel like we have to prove something to him?
Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30)
