Works worthy of repentance?

Acts 26

Instead, I preached…that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance. (Acts 26:20)

I was thinking on the words, “works worthy of repentance,” this morning.

What do they mean?

I think that consciously or not, people often get the impression it means, “We should live in perpetual guilt for our sins and do our best to make up for what we’ve done.”

But repentance is not merely feeling remorse for our sin. Nor is it merely trying to “make up” for what we’ve done.

Rather it’s taking on a totally new mindset. It’s changing the way we see God.

“God is good. He loves me. And he knows and desires my best.”

To do works worthy of repentance, then, is to live a life consistent with that mindset.

How much would our lives change if we had that mindset? How much more joy would we have?

Lord, I believe that you are good, that you love me, and that you know and desire my best. Help me to live a life consistent with that mindset.
