In this way, you have nullified the word of God because of your tradition. (Matthew 15:6)
I was thinking today of all the ways we can nullify God’s word in our lives.
Cultural values.
Political views.
Values passed down from our parents.
Our personal feelings, or as some people put it, “my truth.”
Even our theological views.
Any time we let these things supersede God’s Word in our lives, we end up nullifying that Word.
When we do that, though, we become like the Pharisees, honoring God with our lips, but with hearts far from him.
I don’t want to be that way.
I want to align my values, my thoughts, my heart with God’s.
Lord, search me and know my heart. Show me the areas where I’ve been nullifying your Word in my life. And align my heart with yours.
