Remove the stone,” Jesus said.
Martha, the dead man’s sister, told him, “Lord, there is already a stench because he has been dead four days.”
Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
So they removed the stone. (John 11:39-41)
“Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
I was thinking on those words today.
Sometimes we are reluctant to remove the heavy stones in our lives. The stones that cover up the dead things in our hearts.
Hurt. Disappointment. Bitterness. Unforgiveness. Other sins we struggle with.
But we will never see God’s glory in our lives if we do not choose to believe him.
And of course, belief implies obedience. If we truly believe, we will obey our good King.
We can make a lot of excuses for disobedience.
“It can’t be helped. It’s just how things are. That’s just how I am.”
But we will never see God’s glory or his work in our lives if we choose that path.
We need to choose to remove the stone and expose all our dead things to God.
And step by step, by his grace and with his help, we need to start cleaning them out.
Lord, I believe you are the Christ, my good King. So I expose my heart and all that is in it to you. Help me to trust you…and obey.
