Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” Jesus answered.
“This came about so that God’s works might be displayed in him. We must do the works of him who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John 9:3-5)
When bad things happen in our lives, it’s easy to think that God must be punishing us.
Yesterday at my church, the message was about the life of Joseph in Genesis. Looking at his circumstances, it would have been easy for him to think, “Is God punishing me for some reason? Why is this happening?”
But God wasn’t punishing Joseph. He allowed bad things to happen that his works might be displayed in Joseph. And so wherever he was, Joseph did the works God had prepared for him to do. In doing so, he became light, not only to his brothers who had betrayed him, but to all of Egypt.
I’m praying God does the same in me.
Like Jesus, as long as I am in this world, I’m to be the light of the world. (Matthew 5:14)
And as with Jesus, he’s prepared things for me to do. So I need to be doing them. (Ephesians 2:10)
The same can be said of you.
So let us all be praying every day,
Lord, let your work be displayed in me. In my life be glorified.
