This chapter is kind of a scary one when you think about it.
It talks about the man of lawlessness, the Antichrist, the one fighting against the kingship of Jesus.
And it seems that because of him, many in the church will fall away from the truth.
Actually, many have done so already. Many churches and many people who claim to be Christians reject God’s truth concerning sin and instead embrace what he condemns. They actually delight in what God calls unrighteousness.
So when Antichrist comes preaching the things they already believe, they will quickly embrace him, especially when he performs signs and wonders like Jesus did.
But Paul says that when Jesus comes, he will destroy Antichrist with a breath. And all who follow him will perish too. Why?
They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth and so be saved. (2 Thessalonians 2:10)
And so Paul encourages the Thessalonians and us,
So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, whether by what we said or what we wrote. (2 Thessalonians 2:15)
In short, love the truth. And hold on to it tightly.
Even when it goes against our way of thinking.
Even when it hurts sometimes.
Love it. Embrace it.
More, seek it out. As I mentioned in a recent article, don’t be content with your ignorance.
If you love God’s truth, you will seek to understand it.
And to practice it.
Lord, I choose today and every day to love and embrace your truth.
