A reason to rejoice

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:30-31)

The episode in Philippi was very interesting to me.

It starts with a demon mocking Paul and Silas, sarcastically telling the people around them: “These men are preaching a way of salvation.”

But the story ends with the jailer asking, “What must I do to be saved?”

In short, Satan can’t stop God’s work, no matter how hard he tries.

Jesus is Lord of all, even over the demons. Our God has the power to break chains and set the prisoners free. He did it for the girl. He did it for the jailer.

No wonder Paul and Silas were worshiping even while in jail.

This good news makes me want to worship too.

Jesus, you are Lord of all, the one that breaks chains and sets the prisoners free. Help me to always remember that, ever worshiping you and proclaiming your good news to everyone I meet.
