Imitating our Lord

Now I, Paul, myself, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ… (2 Corinthians 10:1)

“The meekness and gentleness of Christ.”

I was meditating on those words this morning.

It made me think of what Jesus said in Matthew 11.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29)

Meekness and gentleness so marked our Lord that whenever he broke the pattern, people took notice.

Unfortunately, I see too many Christians where the opposite is true: meekness and gentleness are the last words we would use to describe them.

Can anyone say “social media”?

I wonder. How many more strongholds could we break in people’s lives if the main weapon we wielded was love?

How many more strongholds could we break if we were marked by our Lord’s gentleness and meekness as much as by truth?

Lord, you have dealt with me with such gentleness, meekness, and humility. Help me to deal with others as you have dealt with me.
