After making a whip out of cords, he drove everyone out of the temple with their sheep and oxen. He also poured out the money changers’ coins and overturned the tables. He told those who were selling doves, “Get these things out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”
And his disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal for your house will consume me. (John 2:15-17)
As I read that this morning, the thought occurred to me, “What attitudes does Jesus want to overturn in my heart? What sins does he want to drive out?”
It didn’t take long for God to speak to me on that.
My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus calls me his Father’s house. And zeal for that house consumes him.
And so as I thought about the sins and wrong attitudes in my heart, I was praying,
“Lord, give me the same zeal for your temple that you have. Help me to overturn these wrong attitudes and drive out these sins in my life.”
